About Us
Kiron Speech Path is a private practice owned and operated by Rachel Collins Burns, M.A., CCC-SLP.
After earning a Certificate to Teach Preschool, Rachel achieved her Bachelor of Arts (2003) and Master of Arts (2006) degrees from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). Once working full-time in the field of speech therapy, she became eligible for the prestigious Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). She returned to CSUF shortly after graduating to earn a Certificate in Expert Witness - Litigation Support and Testimony. Rachel is currently licensed by the boards of public health in California, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, as well as the Board of Educational Examiners in Iowa. In addition to her career as a speech-language pathologist, Rachel has worked as an Autism and Challenging Behavior Specialist and a college professor, teaching Accent Modification and Reduction courses. She is a published author on the subject of accent modification for English Language Learners. Her core value of service to others — along with an interest in the medical field — led to her current role as a Nationally Certified Firefighter I/Hazardous Materials Operations and Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician to the volunteer Kiron Fire Department, Inc., where she serves as the EMS Service Director.
Kiron Speech Path was established in 2016 as a side business to provide quality speech therapy to homeschool families without the need for dual enrollment, while Rachel continued her work in schools. In 2020 Kiron Speech Path grew to a full-time adventure, allowing Rachel to begin homeschooling her own children. Bringing decades of experience working with individuals with special needs and a core value of service, Rachel is here to support you and your family on your unique journey.
